Dr. Joe Wakshlag is a world renowned expert on canine nutrition and sports medicine. He will discuss how to use the science of nutrition to give that extra edge and enhance your dog’s winning performance.
In addition to his expertise in nutrition, Dr. Wakshlag is also a sled dog competitor. As a musher on the front lines, veterinarian, and sports medicine expert, he will give insight into the sport of sled dog racing, including the various events, training, and common injuries seen in these remarkable athletes.
Military Working Dogs
Dr. Andrea Henderson is a Major in the US Army and is tasked with the conditioning and rehabilitation programs for the 2500 military working dogs in the United States and abroad. She will discuss the selection, training, and use of these very special working dogs. People around the world recognize the value of these unique animals and you can hear about them firsthand.
Lower Back Pain in Performance Dogs
During her graduate work and residency, Dr. Henderson tackled the very difficult task of lower back pain in working dogs. Her research is cutting edge, and more importantly, she will provide valuable insight into the prevention and treatment of this very common condition.
Vaccinations, Heartworm and Flea Prevention, and Deworming
There are many misconceptions regarding whether or not to vaccinate, what to vaccinate for, how to best prevent heartworm and flea infestation, and appropriate deworming schedules for dogs that are regularly traveling and competing. Dr. Marti Drum is a sports medicine and rehabilitation expert who deals with shoulder issues on a daily basis in sporting and working dogs. She will review the relevant anatomy, where to locate the structures on your dog, and how to evaluate for potential problems in your performance dog.
